Debit Card Fraud

Report Debit Card Fraud

 Section Menu

Debit card fraud occurs when someone gains access to your debit card number, and in some cases, your personal identification number (PIN), to make unauthorized purchases or cash withdrawals from your account.

It is important to review your transaction history regularly, or setup debit card transaction notifications through online or mobile banking to ensure you are catching fraud quickly.

Is it Fraud?

If you detect a purchase or withdraw that you don't recognize, ask yourself these questions before reporting fraud.

Ask Yourself These Questions Consider These Possibilities
Did you sign up for a service or a free trial? It's possible you may have forgotten that you authorized your debit card for a service or free trial.
Did you give your card to someone, or did someone have access to your card? Check with that individual(s) first to see if they made the transaction.
Is the transaction description different than the purchase you made? Sometimes merchants use a description that doesn't always match the purchase.
Is the state on the description different than the location of purchase? It's possible that the state listed is the merchant's headquarters.
Is the charge a recurring charge on your account that happens automatically? Infrequent charges, such as annual payments may be easily forgotten, but legitimate.
Did you misplace your card during the timeframe that the suspicious transaction posted? This may help you narrow down where the card may have been used.
