Deb Mettlin's Retirement

Posted on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in News and Announcements

Deb MettlinCurt Hoff, United Bank & Trust President, announces the retirement of Deb Mettlin, Head Teller/Teller Supervisor, on April 28, 2017.

Mettlin, a native of Marshalltown, began her banking career when she answered an ad for a teller opening at Marshalltown Savings & Loan in 1973. She was hired and worked there until 2000 (except for a 3 ½ year period to stay home with her two children).

In 2000, Mettlin took a short break from banking and worked as a bookkeeper for Electric Supply of Marshalltown. In 2003, she was contacted by the same individual who hired her at Marshalltown Savings & Loan. That individual was now working for United Bank & Trust and looking for a head teller. Deb decided to return to banking as she felt it really was her true calling. She has been employed as Head Teller/Teller Supervisor at United Bank & Trust since 2003.

When asked about her career in banking, Deb commented, “I am truly one of the lucky ones. I enjoy going to work every day because I love what I do!” Deb added that she has never regretted returning to banking.

“We thank Deb for her leadership and commitment to her customers, employees and our community,” says Hoff. “We will miss Deb’s fun and jovial personality at the bank, but we all wish her the best in her retirement.”

In retirement, Deb is looking forward to spending more time with friends and family. She has two children - Marty, a 21-year veteran in the Air Force, and Trisha, a phlebotomist for 10 years at MMSC/Central Iowa Health Care, as well as her parents, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandson.

Deb also looks forward to improving her golf game and co-chairing the 2017 United Way campaign with Marty Mitchell.

An open house celebration of Deb’s career will be on Friday, April 28, from 11:00am – 3:00pm at United Bank & Trust, 2101 S. Center Street.
