Curt Hoff, President of United Bank & Trust, announces the appointment of two new members to the bank’s Board of Directors. Marty Mitchell, owner of Mitchell Family Funeral Home and Doug Beals, attorney with Moore, McKibben, Goodman and Lorenz joined the Board in May.
Mitchell is a Marshalltown native and a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. He worked locally at the Estel-PerrinAvey Funeral Home for 17 years before establishing the funeral home with his late wife, Susan, in 2004. Mitchell is currently active in many organizations, including chair of the Marshalltown Senior Citizens Center, vice-chair of the Riverside Cemetery Board, advisory board member of both Compassionate Friends and DMACC Department of Mortuary Science. He is also active in many funeral directors associations and recently completed three terms on the Iowa Board of Mortuary Science. Mitchell also recently served as co-chair of the local United Way campaign.
Beals, also a Marshalltown native, is a graduate of Buena Vista College and Creighton University Law School. He is active in the community as a Rotarian, Chamber Ambassador, Masonic Lodge member, and Bobcat Booster Club board member. He has been a youth athletic coach, mock trial coach, and has been president of both the Marshall County Red Cross and Oktemberfest.
Mitchell and Beals are replacing long-time board members Larry Raymon, owner of Raymon Enterprises, and Keith Brown, owner of Kapaun and Brown. Both Raymon and Brown served as directors since the bank opened in 2002. Raymon also served as director at the bank’s holding company, Ames National Corporation, from 2007-2017.
Hoff noted “getting a brand new bank off the ground is no small feat and both Larry and Keith were involved from the start. Of the 94 new banks chartered in the U.S. in 2002, less than half remain today. We’ll miss the experience and guidance of these two, and we’re looking forward to the leadership and input of Marty and Doug as they come on board.”
Mitchell and Beals join other board members John Nelson, CEO Ames National Corporation; Curt Hoff, President United Bank & Trust; Kathy Baker, retired United Bank & Trust; Kevin Swartz, CEO Wolfe Clinic; and John Wise, retired, former owner of Ken Wise Buick-GMC-Honda
