United Bank & Trust Celebrates 20 Years

United Bank & Trust is excited to be celebrating our 20-year anniversary this year! It’s hard to believe that much time has already passed!

It was the vision of former bank president, Leo Herrick to open a new bank in Marshalltown.  His goal was to open a community bank that made local decisions, with local expertise, and one that fully supported our community.  With the backing of Ames National Corporation and local investors, his vision came to life.

In November of 2001 Leo purchased the old McDonald’s building (current bank location).  A small team of employees were formed, and once regulatory approval was received, the planning began.  Many decisions were quickly made: building and construction, software, products and services, vendors, procedures, personnel, office furniture, and supplies.  This venture was no small feat.

While the new building was still under construction, the team was ready to get started.  In June of 2002, a mobile trailer became a temporary banking location. Some of the very first customers to this day recall opening their checking account in the “trailer”.  In July 2002, the doors to the bank officially opened, and in December 2002 construction of the new building was complete and operations moved from the mobile trailer to the permanent location.

Of the seven original employees that were here when the bank opened for business, two remain on staff today – Mary Holland and Mary Bryant.  Both are fixtures in the bank, and in the community.  Their knowledge, expertise, dedication, and customer service are unmatched in the industry, and we are fortunate to still have them as part of our United Bank & Trust team.

United Bank & Trust has now grown to 21 employees, two locations with assets of $127 million.  The bank is a full-service bank, with a Trust and Wealth Management department.  While some of the faces have changed over the years, the bank continues to operate under the original vision of being a community bank and making local decisions that supports the Marshalltown community.

As we celebrate our 20-year anniversary, we’d like to thank our customers, employees, and the Main Buildingcommunity. We look forward to many mRibbon Cuttingore years in Marshalltown!
