United Bank & Trust completed their $15,000 donation towards the Marshalltown Arts & Civic Center’s building renovation.
In 1958, J.W. (Bill) Fisher and his wife, Dorothy had a vision for Marshalltown to build a community center that supported the arts. That vision came to life and was known as the Fisher Community Center. In 1969, the Martha-Ellen Tye Playhouse was constructed as an addition to the building. This was a 450-seat theatre, named after Bill Fisher’s sister.
After many years as a community icon, the building was devastated by the derecho of2020. Immediately, renovation and restoration fundraising efforts began.
United Bank & Trust contributed to the project by making a generous pledge of $5,000/year for 3 years.
United Bank & Trust President, Robert Thomas, said, “We are happy to support the MACC’s renovation. Not only does the Center support the arts but also provides essential space for nonprofit organizations and community use.”
MACC Director, Kristine Kienzle, commented, “This project is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our community. Thanks to generous donations, we will soon have our entire campus operational, maximizing its full potential.” Kienzle provided a progress update that the MACC is accessible once again in a safe and modern environment. The Martha-Ellen Tye Playhouse theatre renovations are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
